North Hampton, NH – Lamprey Brothers, a local energy company, is working to reduce automobile carbon dioxide emissions in the spirit of ‘Walk/Ride Your Bike to Work Day’ Friday, May 15 - by transporting materials to job sites via bicycle throughout the day.

Joanne Lamprey, President of Lamprey Brothers says “We have been working to reduce our carbon footprint since the company began and are evermore conscious of methods to do so.  ‘Bike to Work Day’ inspired us to think of innovative ways to reduce our carbon emissions by reducing how much we drive – especially considering the wonderful weather!  Most of our employees live too far away to bike to work, so we decided to do the biking at work instead.”  Lamprey Brothers will deliver parts to local jobs by bicycle throughout the day and, as always, will be providing information about carbon reduction to employees and customers.

According to the League of American Bicyclists, automobile emissions are the single largest cause of air pollution in the US, and short trips can be three times more polluting than longer trips.  Biking instead of driving can keep 3.6 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions per mile out of the atmosphere.  In fact, if every household in North Hampton drove 20 miles less per week and biked instead, the town would collectively reduce carbon emissions by 120,312 pounds each year!

“I didn’t realize that biking for just one day would have such a positive impact on the environment,” says Harrison Gorham, Lamprey Brothers Warehouse Coordinator.  “Working at Lamprey Brothers has ignited a passion for the environment within me, and like many of the solutions that our company offers, when it comes to driving versus biking, it doesn’t take much to do the right thing.”

About the League of American Bicyclists:
