North Hampton, NH - Providing a helping hand to a non-profit organization that helps other non-profits, was an easy decision to make for Lamprey Brothers when they discovered that the Portsmouth Women’s City Club was in need of a new heating system.
“The request for a new heating system for the Portsmouth Women’s City Club came to us a couple of months ago, as their system was more than 25 years old. We knew it was time for an energy efficient replacement to help them save money and reduce their oil consumption,” said Joanne Lamprey, President of Lamprey Brothers. “This is an organization and a home dating back to 1920 which holds so much history and always puts the community’s needs first, making this a perfect fit for our Company.”
The Portsmouth Women’s City Club’s mission is dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. Members of the Women’s Club have the opportunity to make a real difference by helping local non-profits around the Seacoast with voluntary and monetary support.
The Women’s Club house is not only for hosting meetings and fundraisers. It is also home to women who need a fresh start. Women who are struggling through a life changing event or finding themselves starting over can stay in the home until they are ready to get their feet on the ground again. This was all the more reason Lamprey Brothers became involved with helping to install a new heating system, especially with the cold weather approaching and people using the house as their home.
Mary Z. Walker, current President of the Portsmouth Women’s City Club and a member since 1986, has served as president twice. She says, “I was so touched when I learned that Oil Heat Cares was going to donate the funds for the new heating equipment and that the employees of Lamprey Brothers were going to donate their time to ensure the equipment was put in before it got cold outside.” Walker continues, “The job was done seamlessly and it is just beautiful, I can’t believe how quiet our new boiler runs and when the Lamprey technicians left everything was spotless. On behalf of the Portsmouth Women’s City Club, we couldn’t be more thankful.”
Steve Vachon, a technician with Lamprey Brothers for 12 years, and a member of the National Association of Oil Heating Service Managers (NAOHSM) for three years, is currently serving as president of the Greater Seacoast Chapter of NAOHSM. Vachon says, “All of the technicians were so eager to be a part of this project. It was a wonderful way to spend our weekend, giving back to the community with the help of Oil Heat Cares.”
“Organizations like the Portsmouth Women’s City Club is one of the reasons that NAOHSM has a program like Oil Heat Cares available. We were honored to be a part of it,” said Judy Garber, NAOHSM’s Executive Administrator and Chairwoman of the Oil Heat Cares Foundation’s Board of Directors.
“We have been so fortunate this past year with the help of our community,” says Walker. To give thanks to Lamprey Brothers as well as other company’s and community members from around the Seacoast, the Portsmouth Women’s City Club will be hosting a night of thanks on November 29th from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. “There are no words that could describe how grateful we are to our community which has helped us over the past years, so that we in turn could help others,” says Walker. “We want to invite our Seacoast community into our home, to show our thanks and great appreciation.”
